Anderson Shelton Photography

I found a fascination in photography at a very young age from watching my Great-Aunt Nadia Price Strid, of Memphis, TN, in her studio and a love for art from my grandmother, Billy Price Hosmer Carroll, also of Memphis. These ladies saw and sought to share beauty all around them, and helped to foster my love for art. While I didn't delve deeply into photography until I was in my late-30s, and too late to share much of my work with them, I credit them with all that I do behind the lens.

Aside from the tutelage of framing, light versus shadow, and depth of field given me by my aunt, I am self-taught. I started, as do many photographers, following and capturing my kids on sports fields. I was honored to be asked by one of their groups to be the "official photographer" for the season. This blossomed into being asked to photograph various functions and graduations ceremonies for numerous groups. 

Today, photography is my connection to the world around me and my way of honoring the fine ladies that gave me my eye.

I read once about someone who said that they played with God’s crayons. My photography is my effort at playing with God’s box of crayons. I only hope that I can capture a fraction of the color, depth, shape of light, and beauty that the world around us holds. 

If I can share that beauty with others, I have achieved success.

Whether it be a picturesque landscape or the smile of a child, I strive to capture the best that our creator has laid out before us.
